Prominent Constitutional Lawyer and writer, Alex Magaisa:

Another month and another sad loss to the nation, as news filters in that the great author, Charles Mungoshi has died.

Mungoshi is one of my literary heroes and news of his death is a hard blow. I was first introduced to his work in secondary school – one of his books was a set-book for our literature class. I read it over and over again, till I could recite some of its most memorable lines.

Former Deputy Prime Minister and writer, Arthur Mutambara:

A literary giant has fallen. The creative industry, literature and the Zimbabwean nation have lost a pillar. The influence of Mungoshi’s work cuts across generations, continents and cultures.

As we mourn him, let us address the contradictions and disconnects in the political economy of the publishing industry, and the creative industry in general, that short-change our artists and writers

Prominent Journalist, Brezhnev Malaba:

Charles Mungoshi’s creative genius & versatility inspired a generation of readers&writers. Coming Of The Dry Season,to me,is his seminal text. I’ll never stop marvelling at how Mungoshi would pen a Shona novel this year & win a top award;write in English next yr & win again!RIP.

Writer, Takura Zhangazha:

Ah, Charles Mungoshi, thank you for the consciousness.

Sad to learn about the death of Charles Muzuva Mungoshi, the most versatile Zimbabwean writer. He was my teacher, my brother and my inspiration. Kunyarara kuye kwazotaura zvinorwadza (that quietness has spoken what pains)!

Motivational Book Writer, Rabison Shumba:

Zimbabwe has lost yet another galant contributor in literary arts Giant Charles Mungoshi. Passed on after midnight on Saturday 16 Feb. He died after a long illness. What a fighter. What a genius. What a master in literature. Go well sir.
