The government has engaged a German company for the production of vehicle number plates. The deal, if successful, is expected to reduce costs by 50 per cent.
The deal will also entail the setting up of manufacturing plants in each of the country’s 10 provinces. As such, each province will have a unique identification of the plates. The envisaged plates will cost $65, significantly lower than the current $80.
This development comes as the Central Vehicle Registration (CVR) has failed to meet the demand for vehicle plates.
