Harare magistrate Ms Rumbidzayi Mugwagwa yesterday removed from remand suspended Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Financial Intelligence Unit director Mirirai Chiremba.
Chiremba is facing criminal abuse of duty charges. Mugwagwa granted Chiremba’s application for refusal of further remand, which he had applied for earlier this week. She said the case will proceed by way of summons when the State is ready for trial.
Allegations against Chiremba are that he raised the withdrawal limit for Suzan General Trading to $30 000 at a time when the corporate withdrawal limit was $10 000 per day. Chiremba allegedly approved a request to raise the withdrawal limit for Suzan to $95 000 before it was processed by the RBZ Financial Intelligence Unit.
