Zim Govt Confident That Ramaphosa Will Deal With Xenophobia

A deputy Minister says the government of Zimbabwe is aware of the xenophobic attacks being carried out in South Africa against foreign nationals.

Energy Mutodi, the deputy minister in the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services said that the government of Zimbabwe has confidence that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will deal with the issue. Mutodi revealed this through a Twitter post on Saturday. He said:

We have noted some gruesome acts of violence perpetrated by South African youths against Zimbabweans and other foreign African nationals living in South Africa.

We hope the law will take its course on those criminals. We have confidence in the government of President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Sporadic xenophobic attacks broke out in South Africa last week in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Polokwane provinces.

The local people blame foreigners for unemployment and violent crimes. However, Ramaphosa and opposition party Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema have both condemned the attacks.
