Douglas Mwonzora, MDC Alliance secretary general has cited the unfairness of the nomination process as the reason for his withdrawal from participating in the forthcoming party elective congress. Mwonzora was higly regarded as one of the contenders for the MDC presidential post before withdrawing to settle for his current post. He revaled in an interview that he reported the matter to the relevant authorities who took no action. He said:
I am no longer able to continue participating in the current congress. I have raised my concerns to the chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission, ZCTU led by Mr Japhet Moyo but nothing was done. I therefore had to withdraw because I do not wish to see the party divided.
I cannot continue participating in the congress under the present circumstances if the concerns I have raised remained unresolved.
The secretary general did not disclose the kind of matters that pushed him to withdraw from the race. He only said:
There are internal but there are a number of concerns that I raised but were not addressed
