Natpharm Directors Given One Week Ultimatum To Disburse Medicine

Following the recent visit to National Pharmaceutical Company (Natpharm) by the first lady, Auxillia Mnangagwa, the government has given Natpharm a one-week ultimatum to disburse medicine to health institutions across the country.

Health and Child Care Minister Obadiah Moyo said failure to do so, heads would roll. He said:

I am giving you one week to clear all those boxes that are here. You have to make sure that all those stocks move to districts, laboratories, clinics. We cannot have excuses. So it is up to you to come up with a system in place that takes care of the movement of the products.

The minister also said that he expected a change in the way things were done at Natpharm. He also said that he was shocked to realise that Natpharm was stockpiling drugs. He also said that Natpharm should make sure all the products are disbursed as soon as they arrive.

Natpharm managing director, Mrs. Florah Sifeku had earlier revealed that they distribute medicine that would have been ordered. With regards to medicine in stock, she said that some laboratories had already ordered them but were not able to immediately take them up because of the absence of other consumables and equipment.
