Commentators have urged government officials to be honest when making public announcements as repeated lies have destroyed confidence in the system.
A case in point is the Minister of Energy and Power Development’s declaration in February that the country had enough fuel to cover 2 years.
However, only last week, the government was informing citizens that US$50 million dollars have been released towards payment of fuel.
Social media activists, Team Pachedu tweeted:
#LIERS
In February, Minister Gumbo said:
“I was invited by @edmnangagwa to a meeting where there was Dr Mangudya and I was shown payments made to procure fuel that would cover the next 24 months.”
In May, they are now paying again another US$50 million?
😳
Constitutional law expert and Kent University lecturer Alex Magaisa had this to say:
In other countries, a minister who makes a false promise would do the honourable thing when the truth is revealed. Mangundya refused to go despite his 2016 bond note undertakings. He was rewarded with a term renewal. Mthuli will just play by the same rule book. Havana ganda ava.
