Tapiwa Kasame, a prosecutor with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) appeared before the provincial magistrate’s court for allegedly releasing Ignatius Chombo’s passport.
The prosecutor is charged with criminal abuse of office after he conspired to nicodemously release former cabinet minister’s passport which had been kept by the courts.
Provincial Magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti released him on $150 bail coupled with reporting conditions.
It is alleged that Kasame showed favor to Chombo by releasing his passport when he knew that the passport was also being held in respect of two other records which he was not handling. Kasame’s gesture is said to be contrary to his duties as a public officer.
