Warriors and Baroka FC goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze has responded to accusations of faking injuries and time-wasting during matches.
At one point last season, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane railed at Chipezeze for his perceived time-wasting antics. He said then:
We should congratulate Chipezeze for being the Man of the match for wasting time. He is a good goalkeeper, and we have no doubt about it.
He made brilliant saves, but you still give him the award when he is on the floor all the time.
South African football needs to look at certain things differently. I have said this (before) and I know I’m right.
I know who chooses the man of the match, but I’m wondering how do you give the award to a player who does things like this.
However, Chipezeze said that he is not bothered by those accusations. He said that he will continue to do whatever it takes for his club to win football matches.
South African newspaper, The Citizen quotes him as saying:
You know people are always there to talk but you know this is our job, you have to do whatever is necessary for you to win.
There are many ways of killing a cat, so if I’m doing that and it is benefiting my team then it’s fine.
