Zimbabweans React: Liberation War Hero Dumiso Dabengwa Dies
Liberation War hero and ZAPU president Dumiso Dabengwa died on Thursday in Kenya while returning from India where he was undergoing treatment following liver complications. Here is how Zimbabweans across the political divide reacted:
I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Comrade Dumiso Dabengwa. I had huge respect for Dumiso and his contribution to Zimbabwe: As a liberation fighter, a long-standing Minister of Home Affairs & as a man. My deepest condolences are with his friends and family at this sad time. President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Dumiso Dabengwa: 1939 – 2019. A true freedom fighter, selfless revolutionary & national hero; whose service to Zimbabwe was derailed by gukurahundists who maliciously detained him in 1983 for four years under the evil Rhodesian State of Emergency Act. Giants like him don’t fall! Prof Jonathan Moyo.
FeedbackOur condolences to the Dabengwa family and the nation at large for the untimely death of a liberation war hero #DumisoDabengwa. May his soul rest in eternal peace. MDC Zimbabwe
It’s with great sadness that I’ve just heard that Tata is no more. A true ZIPRA Commander, a well respected, humble & selfless cadre. The treatment he received was never deserving of the great liberator he was. RIP Tata Temba Mliswa.
Heroes never die. Thank you Dumiso and Rex for your contributions to Zimbabwe. If I was in Zimbabwe, I would attend his burial. These are the Patriots! Pedzisai Ruhanya
A great liberator. Iqhawe lamaqhawe. Nobody can take that away from you. It’s a pity the revolution was later hijacked by hyenas. Brezhnev Malaba
Rex & Dumiso, liberation war brothers separated by a predatory political elite that pursued nothing but power for the sake of it! 1 day I hope that their history will be properly contextualized and told truthfully! Both were in ZAPU before Rex joined ZANU. May they Rest In Peace. Hopewell Chi’ono
“I was 24 when I first participated in what was considered an act of civil disobedience under Rhodesian law. I went on with thousands of others to join the struggle for a better future for us all, a better Zimbabwe for future generations” RIP Dumiso Dabengwa, The Black Russian. Ranga Mberi
Sad news! I hear the Black Russian has passed away in Kenya. MHSRIP. MMatigari
The Black Russian is gone, a Giant has fallen The Black Russian (December 6, 1939 – May 23, 2019) Fare thee well War Commander Lala ngokuthula qhawe! ZANU PF Patriots
