Former Warriors captain Peter Ndlovu has defended coach Sunday Chidzambga after some commentators expressed scepticism over his ability to take the team to the later stages of AFCON 2019.
Ndlovu, who was captain in 2004 when the Warriors made their maiden AFCON appearance in Tunisia, claimed that “Mhofu” knows his stuff. Said Ndlovu:
I have been privileged to work under him, and I can tell you he knows his stuff. He is one of the best coaches I have worked under. He is very good at player management.
He consults his players before making a decision, and he also takes criticism from the players as he gives them a platform to express themselves.
I put my head on the block and say that this time around, the Warriors are going to go far in this tournament. With the experience that he got in 2004, I believe Chidzambwa will take us far this time around.
The Warriors play their first match on June 21 against hosts Egypt followed by matches against DRC and Uganda.
