Chidzambga's Father Dies Aged 98, ZIFA Grants Coach Compassionate Leave

Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambga has left the Warriors camp in Durban, South Africa after the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) granted him compassionate leave.

Chidzabgwa lost his father, Ezekiel, who died on Sunday at the age of 98.

This was revealed by ZIFA communications manager Xolisani Gwesela. He said in a statement:

The Zimbabwe Football Association extends its deepest condolences to our senior men coach…Chidzambwa who lost his father…Ezekiel today (yesterday).

The late…Chidzambwa was 98 years old. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Chidzambwa family in this painful period. May his dear soul rest in eternal peace.

Former Warriors manager, Sharif Musa also expressed his condolences. He told the Daily News:

I have just learnt with sadness and sorrow the sad news of the passing away of the father of our country’s senior national team coach Sunday Chidzambwa,” Mussa told the Daily News.

My deepest condolences to him, his young brother Misheck and the Chidzambwa family. My thoughts and prayers are with him (Sunday) and his family. I hope and pray for him to have strength during this sad and difficult times.

The Warriors are in South Africa for the COSAFA tournament. They beat the Comoros 2-0 on Saturday in their first match.

Chidzambga is expected to rejoin the team on Thursday ahead of their departure for Nigeria where they will play the Super Eagles in a friendly international on June 8.
