ZBC May Not Broadcast AFCON As It Battles To Get €700 000 For Rights
The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Authority (ZBC) is not yet in a position to beam live the Africa Cup of Nations tournament which starts in Egypt on Friday (tomorrow).
It was revealed on Thursday morning that the public broadcaster is still battling to acquire broadcasting rights to show the AFCON games.
ZBC chief executive Patrick Mavhura told parliamentarians that the Corporation needs 700 000 Euros to secure the rights.
Mavhura was appearing before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Information, Media and Broadcasting Services when he made the revelations.
With the current economic challenges, most of the soccer lovers were expecting to watch the tournament on ZBCtv as Pay TV has become unaffordable.
For those who intend to watch the action in bars, the current load shedding will put paid to that, and for those with generators, well the fuel is hard to find nowadays.
