Immigration Officials Seize Chinese National Who Assaulted Chief Chivero
The Zimbabwean immigration officials reportedly seized the Chinese national who assaulted Chief Chivero in Norton this week. Reports suggest that Qiao Shunglong has already been put in custody by the police.
William Gung, a Chinese national running Sunny Yifeng Tiles factory in the satellite town informed New Zimbabwe of the development. Gung said:
Two immigration officers arrived and picked him up for questioning. The issue seems to have turned political.
FeedbackGung’s report resonated with that of Police Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi who confirmed that Shunglong was in their custody. Nyathi, however, could not give further details saying the matter was now in the hands of the courts. He said:
We cannot comment on the matter because it is sub judice. The matter is now in the hands of the courts.
Chief Chivero, real name Brown Shopo, earlier this week claimed that Shunglong attacked him on Monday when he had visited Sunny Yifeng to solicit for jobs for his subjects. He further claims that he was left with a twisted arm.
Shunglong’s employer has since denied the traditional leader’s claims. He said that Chief Chivero had come to his premises to demand US$16 000 from him as a token of appreciation for doing business in his land.
The company’s assistant manager, Mr. Gong Wei Lin, addressed a Press conference and laid the blame on Chief Chivero. He said:
Qiao tried to stop him from entering, but the chief turned violent and slapped him while many people watched.
