Members of Parliament have urged members of the public to embrace the Zimbabwe Dollar which was re-introduced early this week.
Speaking at a press briefing in Harare on Wednesday, Goromonzi North member of Parliament Ozias Bvute said confidence in the Zimbabwe dollar will come when people accept the currency as the sole medium of exchange. Said Bvute:
From a rural perspective, many of our constituents were now having difficulties trading in the US$ which was not readily accessible.
Confidence will develop between us when we trade, with us accepting the ZW$ as the sole medium of exchange.
When functionality occurs, confidence will grow… As long as basic goods and commodities are available, there is no need for lack of confidence to a point where the currency itself becomes dysfunctional.
Bvute’s sentiments were echoed by Zvimba South legislator Philip Chiyangwa who said that the Zimdollar would be a boon especially for rural people who had little access to foreign currency.
