Lobels Forced To Close Bulawayo Bakery Again
One of the country’s largest bread manufacturers, Lobels Bakery on Friday reportedly shut down its Bulawayo plant due to a shortage of flour.
The company told its employees to go on leave for an indefinite period until the flour has been availed.
A Lobels worker who spoke to New Zimbabwe.com on condition of anonymity said:
Our Bulawayo plant closed on Friday. We have exhausted all our flour stocks. Management only said they will recall us after the situation has improved. They said we will not be paid while we are at home.
This is the second time within a month that Lobels Bakery has closed the plant owing to flour shortages.
In June, both the Harare and Bulawayo plants were closed. The two plants have a staff complement of 900 and 500 each respectively.
