SA Businesses Under Heavy Guard In Nigeria Today As Protesters Vow To Loot Them In Retaliation

Nigerians have angrily taken it to the streets to register their displeasure and stand in solidarity with their fellow Africans who are under attack in South Africa. This has prompted the authorities in Nigeria to provide heavy security at all South African Businesses in Nigeria as there was fear of looting and damaging property.

Looting and vandalism cases have been recorded at MTN, Shoprite and other SA businesses operating in Nigeria. The Chief Of Police in Nigeria told AFP that they had increased security for South African businesses:

We have stepped up security around MTN, Shoprite and other South African businesses across Nigeria

Nigerians who were protesting in Ajuba set a bonfire in the midst of the airport road just close to a Shoprite Mall in Abuja. A Nigerian publication Punch wrote:

Youths protesting the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa on Wednesday made a bonfire on the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Road, Lugbe, Abuja, a few metres from a South African franchise, Shoprite Mall.

Billowing smoke from the bonfire paralysed vehicular traffic on the Expressway as security agents mounted guard over the shopping mall which failed to open for fear of being attacked.
