Stampede At Robert Mugabe Body Viewing
There was pandemonium at Rufaro Stadium on Thursday afternoon as members of the public stampeded to catch a glimpse of the remains of the late former President Robert Mugabe.
Several people had to be ferried to the hospital with some having fainted while others sustained minor injuries as they jostled to view Mugabe’s body.
One of the victims of the stampede identified as Marceline Meki (32) told the Daily News that her leg was hurt in the melee. She said:
I was pushed to the crowd as I walked from the terraces to have sight of my hero’s body and I fell to the ground, hurting my leg.
I decided to come because I respect this man for the education that he gave me. He is my hero so I do not regret that I ended up with this injury.
Members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) had a torrid time trying to control the restive crowd.
