Electricity Supply Situation To Improve
The availability of electricity is expected to improve after Energy and Power Development Minister, Fortune Chasi, secured a deal with Mozambican authorities for the supply of an additional 100 megawatts. Zimbabwe has been getting 50 megawatts from Hydroelectrica de Cahora Bassa.
Addressing the reporters during a post-cabinet media briefing in Harare on Monday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said:
The Minister of Energy and Power Development informed Cabinet that he had recently concluded an agreement with the Mozambican authorities for the supply of an additional 100 megawatts from Hydroelectrica de Cahora Bassa of Mozambique.
FeedbackThis, together with ongoing rehabilitation of the existing small thermal power stations, should further consolidate the already improved electricity supply situation in the country.
The country has been experiencing extended periods of power cuts with most parts of the country going for 18 hours without electricity.
