Joshua Nkomo's Remains Could Be Exhumed From Heroes Acre
The family of the late national hero and former Zimbabwe Vice President, Joshua Nkomo, may exhume his remains at the National Heroes Acre and re-bury them at his homestead in Kezi, Matabeleland South.
This was revealed by one of Nkomo’s sons, Sibangilizwe, in an interview with The Daily News. He said:
We still have that wish to bury him next to his parents as he wanted. The nation must understand that should we decide as a family to remove his remains from the Heroes Acre, it will be because we are following his wishes.
FeedbackThis follows former President Robert Mugabe’s burial at his rural village in Kutama last week after his family snubbed the government’s offer to build a mausoleum for him at the Heroes Acre.
Nkomo became Zimbabwe’s first Executive Vice President in 1987 following the signing of the Unity Accord with Mugabe, and he died in 1999.
