Fear Abound As Senior Doctors Join Strike
Senior doctors are reported to have joined industrial action meant to push the government to review salaries and working conditions.
Speaking to the News Day, a senior doctor at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals said that salary erosion had incapacitated them to the extent that they could no longer execute their duties and responsibilities. The anonymous doctor said:
Since there has been no communication from the Health ministry following our communication on Tuesday which warned of this, we are withdrawing our services.
FeedbackThe doctor added that the health practitioners were, however, ready to have negotiations with authorities to find the best possible way forward.
The strike comes when other doctors who have been on industrial action for weeks now are saying that they will only return to work when their salary demands have been met.
The latest development is likely to worsen an already dire situation which has seen other public medical institutions engaging personnel from the Zimbabwe National Army to stand in for striking doctors.
