"Authorities Are Mistaken," Company Denies Abusing Command Agric Funds
Fertiliser Grain and Seed (FGS), a local fertiliser company, has dismissed reports suggesting that the company received and abused funds meant for the Command Agriculture Programme.
Addressing members of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Lands, chaired by, Justice Wadyajena (MP), who toured the company premises in Bindura on Friday, FGS managing director, Steve Morland said:
We are not the company in question and the officials mistook us for another company that does funeral services.ย
FeedbackAnd we are not doing anything with Command Agriculture nor do we have any business relationship with Sakunda Holdings.
Morland added that the company has a contract to supply fertiliser under the Presidential Input Scheme and not Command Agriculture.
The remarks come after Tendai Biti, the chair of the Parliament Public Accounts Committee in August accused Treasury of paying US$400 million to the company with no known address or contact person.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is facing severe starvation following a poor farming season amid reports that about US$5 billion was disbursed towards Command Agriculture.
