Local Observer Shot Dead By Riot Police In Mozambique Ahead Of Next Week's Election
A local observer was shot dead in Mozambique’s ruling party’s stronghold yesterday as he was leaving a workshop in Xai-Xai, the capital of the southeastern Gaza province.
Mr Anastacio Matavele was pronounced dead upon admission at the hospital he was taken to after gunmen shot several shots at him. The gunmen fled from the scene and were involved in an accident while fleeing the scene and 1 died on the spot, one was arrested and one was taken to the nearest hospital.

Local observers have stated that the three assailants are known members of the riot police unit. His death confirms that we are witnessing one of the most violent electoral campaigns
Mozambique was visited by the Pope last month on his tri sub-Saharan tour, he also spoke about election violence and the need to strengthen Mozambique’s fragile peace process.which has marred the country’s elections for decades.
