Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission has approached responsible authorities seeking prosecutorial powers to expedite the prosecution of the people they find on the wrong side of the law the Sunday Mail reports. The move was confirmed by Commissioner John Makamure who said:
Yes, we have made representations to be granted those powers. (The) matter is under consideration. We are of the strong view that Zacc must be granted powers to prosecute corruption cases, while the NPA must concentrate on other numerous criminal matters. This will certainly speed up prosecution of corrupt cases. Zacc can prosecute through the recently established Anti-Corruption Courts.
ZACC which was previously given arresting powers was established in March this ear and has been on record saying they have recovered over $100 Million worth property bought through corruption. ZACC’s high profile case to date is that of former tourism minister Prisca Mupfumira who was arrested for siphoning $95 Million from NSSA on personal grounds.
