The police in Mashonaland Central have moved in on 63 gold panners in a bid to crush the resurgence of Machete wars Newsday reports.
The arrests were confirmed by Officer-commanding Mashonaland Central Commissioner Rangarirai Mushaurwa who said they had managed the situation for now:
We are now on top of the situation; we are in control. We managed to arrest 63 illegal miners last week and we are going to exercise our duties at the mine without fear or favour.
Machete-wielding Makorokoza had terrorised Mazowe villagers with some sleeping in the mountains in fear of their lives.
