Zimasco is set to open a new smelting plant in Mberengwa’s Neta area, with work already having started.
Zimasco general manager Reason Mandimika said that the smelter is expected to be operational by July 2020 and will create more than 4 000 jobs. He said:
By July 2020, the plant should be running, starting with 10 000 tonnes of ore per month to about 20 000 tonnes per month when everything is in place.
Mandimika revealed that Zimasco has over seven million tonnes of ore in Mberengwa with the new smelter specialised to process friable chrome, which cannot be smelted at the Kwekwe smelters.
He added that the Mberengwa smelter will grade the ore to produce chrome which will fetch good money on the market.
