Prominent Journalist Claims Cyber Bullying, Quits Twitter "For A While"

A prominent Zimbabwean-born journalist, Haru Mutasa, who works for Qatari-based global news channel Al Jazeera has decided to take a sabbatical from microblogging site Twitter after she was allegedly abused by her followers.

Mutasa posted on her Twitter handle, seemingly condemning civil servants for going on strike. The post generated negative responses, prompting her to announce that she will be off the social media site for a while. Her controversial tweet read:

Let me be quiet …… civil servants and some of the perks they get…bus picks you up and drops off close to home, first-hand information on land deals and other things. #Zimbabwe

In a later post following the backlash, Mutasa said she is tired of meeting people who cannot argue without insulting. She wrote:

Off twitter hopefully for a while …. tired of meeting people who can’t be open-minded, respect different opinions without insulting you. At the end of the day, your personal life and family is what matters. Happy to leave. It was time.
