"Anti-Sanctions Day Shall Be Declared An Official Public Holiday," - ZIM Govt

The acting Information Minister, Professor Amon Murwira on Monday told a post-cabinet media briefing that the government shall make the anti-sanctions day, 5 October an official public holiday.

The government has already lined up a number of activities including a football match between Highlanders and Dynamos and a music gala as well as an anti-sanctions march in the capital, Harare and at Provincial and District levels across the country. Speaking to reporters, Murwira said:

To further amplify the importance of this day to the economic emancipation and well-being of Zimbabwe, Friday 25 October 2019 shall be declared an official public holiday.

The development comes after SADC countries passed a resolution to declare 25 October a day against-sanctions imposed by the West on Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, some local analysts have criticised the event saying that it was time and money-wasting as sanctions will, according to Western states who imposed them, only be removed if Zimbabwe upholds human rights which it is alleged to be currently violating.
