Harare Water Crisis Expected To Ease

Harare’s water crisis is expected to ease following reports that Harare City Council is currently sourcing funds to install a mobile water treatment system that will draw water from Darwendale Dam in Norton, 63 kilometres from Harare.

Harare mayor councillor Herbert Gomba told ZTN that the local authority will soon approach the Ministry of water for rights to use Darwendale Dam. He said:

We have directed as the council that the officials run around and look for funding. I’ll soon be knocking on the door of the Ministry of Water to get water rights to use Darwendale Dam onto which the facility will be erected from.

Some parts of Harare have been without water for several months with the situation blamed on drought and shortage of water treatment chemicals.

A few weeks ago, Harare City Council closed its Morton Jaffray water treatment plant for about a day citing water treatment chemical challenges.
