De Jongh Criticises 'Disorganised' Premier Soccer League

Highlanders coach Hendrik Pieter de Jongh has criticised the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) for ignoring FIFA guidelines on international breaks.

De Jongh had agreed with Warriors coach Joey Antipas to have striker Prince Dube in his team for Wednesday’s clash against Ngezi Platinum Stars at Barbourfields Stadium only for Wellington Mpandare (Warriors Team Manager) to lure Dube behind his coach’s back. A fuming De Jongh said:

It’s not true that if your club has no more than three players in the national team then you can play a competitive match during the break, it’s not true. That is a Zifa and PSL rule. l am talking of Fifa rules and Fifa rules override PSL rules. We will try to work on a good result in tomorrow’s game. It won’t be easy, but we are in a good mood, good spirits. 

Antipas, who doubles as Chicken Inn coach, had earlier castigated the PSL for scheduling league fixtures during the international break.

Antipas will have to temporarily abandon the Warriors camp to take charge of the Gamecocks against Mushowami Stars in Bindura.
