"Zimbabwe Hotels Will Soon Be Overwhelmed As Number Of Tourists Keeps Increasing" - Govt
The government of Zimbabwe has expressed concern over the limited number of its hotels amid increased growth of the Tourism sector.
Addressing the 2019 Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) congress in Mutare on Thursday, Environment, Climate Change, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Permanent Secretary, Mr Munesu Munodawafa said:
New hotel developments and expansions are a key component of the tourism growth strategy going forward, especially when taken in the context that the current room stock of 6 483 rooms may result in a cumulative shortage of about 2 087 rooms as early as end of 2020 going by projected modest tourism growth.
FeedbackHe urged stakeholders to assist the government in addressing the shortage noting that the Tourism sector constituted low hanging fruits, yet essential to the country’s economic recovery.
The government has earmarked the sector as one of the fundamental pillars upon which it seeks to use to revive the collapsed economy.
