The Zimbabwe Prison Services is having a hard time feeding and providing medication for incarcerated citizens according to Newsday.
The matter came to light in Bulawayo during the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission prison assessment consultative meeting where ZPS’s Assistant Commissioner Mehlulelwa Ngwenya said:
We are facing serious challenges, we cannot adequately feed our inmates, neither are we able to treat them due to lack of medicine in our institutions
We are highly incapacitated. We cannot take our inmates to court on time, hence violating their rights.
Zimbabwe has been going through an economic recession with the inflation rate for October sitting at 440% according to Equity Axis.
