Senior Hospital Doctors Association (SHDA) secretary-general Aaron Musara has revealed the salary range of doctors at government hospitals.
Responding to Daily News on Sunday reporter Nokuthaba Nkomo who had asked how much doctors were earning and what they expect from the government, Musara said:
Salaries range from about $3 600 to about $6 000 depending on different levels. Doctors are asking for a liveable wage from the government. It is a negotiable figure and it should be adjusted regularly to cushion against inflation.
Musara implored the government to be sensitive to the plight of the workforce in general and doctors in particular during times of serious economic challenges.
He further urged government officials to be prepared to give concessions when negotiating with doctors rather than having an “I know it all” kind of attitude.
