ED Against The Adoption Of Populist Policies

President Emmerson Emmerson Mnangagwa said his government will avoid implementing populist policies which may have immediate benefits but have a long term negative impact on the economy.

The President made the assertion while addressing the 112th Ordinary Session of the Central Committee at the Zanu-PF headquarters in Harare ahead of the official opening of the party’s 18th National People’s Conference this Friday. He said:

Populist policies and initiatives for short term benefits have dire long-term complications. Let us permanently put our country back on the rails towards recovery, growth and attainment of Vision 2030.

I am confident that together in unity, we will carry the revolution forward progressively and democratically. Forward ever, backward never.

Since the appointment of former banker Mthuli Ncube as the Minister of Finance in 2018, the government has implemented a raft of austerity measures that have deepened citizens’ suffering.
