SADC Parliamentary Forum has joined calls by other SADC nations that sanctions for Zimbabwe must go. The matter came to light at the 46th plenary session of the SADC Parliamentary Forum where diplomats from Angola and Malawi raised the motion that Sanctions against Zim must fall.
Angolian Member of Parliament, Josefina Perpétua Pitra Diakité who moved the motion said:
…negatively impacting “people’s livelihoods, economic development and access to health, particularly the poorest and most vulnerable population, including young girls, women, children, the disabled and the elderly.
The economic sanctions are a violation of the human, economic and social rights of the people of Zimbabwe and have a negative impact on the Government’s efforts to leverage the economy and boost the living standards of the Zimbabwean people.
The SADC Forum’s calls join other African nations in calling for the removal of sanctions against Zimbabwe. 25 October was set aside as an anti-sanctions day where unanimous calls for the removal of sanction were made by the govt and other SADC nations.
