More Junior Doctors Return To Work - PDAZ
The Progressive Doctors Association of Zimbabwe (PDAZ) said it has convinced some junior doctors to sign resumption of duty forms which will see them return to work ahead of the festive season. PDAZ spokesperson, Anesu Rangwani said:
We have made quite a lot of progress to convince some of our striking colleagues to go back to work and quite a number have signed up the resumption of duty forms which is a good thing because they will be able to work on emergencies that usually occur during the festive period.
PDAZ was formed recently as a rival to the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA), which represents junior doctors across the country.
The doctors have been on strike since September 3, demanding better working conditions and improved remuneration.
Reports indicate that 386 doctors have returned to work following a financial package offered by Higherlife Foundation, an NGO founded by Strive and Tsitsi Masiyiwa.
The organisation offered to pay an extra monthly amount of ZWL$5,000 (US$310), a smartphone, transport and some medical equipment.
