The government has declared Monday, 23 December 2019 a public holiday as it comes after the celebration of National Unity Day on Sunday, December 22.
According to Section 2(1) (ii) of the Public Holidays and Prohibition of Business Act, when a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following working day becomes a public holiday.
The position was corroborated by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Aaron Nhepera in an interview with The Herald.
Nhepera said traditionally if a public holiday is on a Sunday, then the following working day will be a holiday.
