The government has slated a Friday meeting with millers when the country is experiencing a huge shortage of mealie meal.
Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) Public Relations Manager, Garikai Chaunza told New Zimbabwe that the government was meeting millers from all over the country. Chaunza said:
Government will this Friday meet with millers from all over the country and iron out issues affecting the availability of subsidised roller meal.
High on the agenda of the meeting is the registration of millers and grain supply whose issues have affected the availability of roller meal on the market.
The government was recently forced to restore subsidies on maize after the prices shot up leaving consumers stranded.
Zimbabwe is importing grain from other countries including Tanzania following a poor farming season reportedly due to the El Nino induced drought and Cyclone Idai.
Some analysts add misgovernance on the list of factors that affected the agriculture sector saying that the reportedly missing US$3 billion could have ensured a good harvest in the country.
