Young Mighty Warriors Hopes For World Cup Fading Following Huge Loss To Botswana

Zimbabwe’s under 17 women’s football team, Young Mighty Warriors lost 5-0 to neighbouring Botswana, a result that minimising their chances of qualifying to partake at the World Cup to be held in India in December.

Their coach Garthly Chipukasaid that the result does not reflect the game they played.

He also believes that a number of issues including the tender age of the majority of players had immense contribution to the disappointing result. He said:

Fact is there are a lot of factors and saying them would be seen as excuses.

… Injury to Emmaculate Zulu also contributed to our heavy defeat. Our right back also got injured.

We just lacked mental strength. I think mainly because the bulk of our players are 14 years old and will be turning 15 this year.

He also said that delays at the border consumed much of their time needed for preparation and resting.

The Young Mighty Warriors also had a false start to the preparations due to financial constraints.
