Deputy Arts Minister Tino Machakaire on Wednesday visited dancehall singer Bounty Lisa at her Kuwadzana home where he pledged that his ministry will assist her during her invalidity.
Bounty Lisa has been incapacitated for the past two years after developing a growth on her right thigh.
Machakaire revealed that plans are afoot to establish a fund that will assist artists in times of need. He donated $5 000 for the artist’s upkeep. Said Machakaire:
We will assist her in the best way possible to ensure that she gets the necessary medical attention here locally and when it fails we take it to another stage. We want her to get back to her usual self and be able to fend for herself.
We will be mapping the way forward on how we can assist our artists by establishing a facility that will benefit them in times of need. It is high time that such an initiative is in existence.
Lisa’s father Pinias Musenyi lamented her daughter’s incapacitation, saying she had become the family breadwinner before her illness.
Musenyi revealed that the family is struggling to make ends meet and is no longer able to afford the US$170.00 that their landlord is demanding.
