Former Cabinet Minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo has claimed that the ruling ZANU PF keeps dangerous weapons at its headquarters in Harare.
These remarks were made after Zimbabwe Republic Police invaded the headquarters of the opposition MDC led by advocate Nelson Chamisa saying that they were searching for machetes.
Posting on Twitter, the exiled former Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education dared ZANU PF to deny the allegations. He said:
What I know as a politburo member in 2000–05 & 2010–17; which I can state under oath is that at its Shakeshake HQ, ZanuPF keeps: 1. Dangerous weapons for its militia; 2. Tsikamutandas disguised as spirit media; and 3. Zapu archives stolen during Gukurahundi
The allegations came with the country still under siege by machete gangs who are reportedly enjoying protection from political elites.
ZANU PF is accusing MDC officials, particularly Chalton Hwende, of protecting the gangs. On the other hand, the MDC is accusing the ruling party claiming that even President Emmerson Mnangagwa is part of the team that is protecting the notorious gangs.
The gangs have hampered gold mining operations in the country as they assault and kill miners and members of the public in gold mining towns. This has also led to growing discontent highlighted by numerous calls for action against the gangs.
