'ED's Government Setting A Dangerous Precedent' - Ibbo Mandaza

A political analyst has condemned the government for repossessing farms owned by some former cabinet ministers saying such a move sets a dangerous precedent.

Director of SAPES Trust, Ibbo Mandaza is of the view that the latest development is a clear message to all, that everyone who lost political power should lose properties. He said:

One day, they [Mnangagwa’s government] will also be out of power, and what will happen to their farms?

On the other hand, politicians should also learn to set laws that benefit everyone, including themselves when they go out of power. The A2 offer letters have a clause which says the offer can be withdrawn in seven days.

Kasukuwere, Moyo, Zhuwao and others knew it and they were part of it. There is no security of tenure in Zimbabwe. Yes, there is a question of vendetta on the evictions, but the offer letters themselves are a problem too.

Saviour Kasukuwere, Robert Zhuwawo and Jonathan Moyo had their farms repossessed by the government due to underutilisation and/or for re-planning and downsizing.

Observers have, however, noted that those seizures are only targeted at former ZANU PF members who were opposed to President Emmerson Mnangagwa succeeding the late former president Robert Mugabe.
