CSC To Lay Off More Than 140 Workers
The Cold Storage Commission management has resolved to lay off more than 140 workers after workers who thought their woes were about to be over since the government roped in a British company Boustead Beef to revive the defunct CSC, Insider Zim reports.
The letter sent to the company employees to be retrenched reads:
As communicated to you, on 25th September 2019, the company has not been operational for more than 15 years hence the 4 months annual shut down of all Abattoirs and Sales Depots to enable the re-tooling of the Plant(s).
FeedbackBoustead Beef Zimbabwe Pvt Ltd on behalf of the Republic of Zimbabwe/Cold Storage Company wishes to lawfully terminate all permanent employees on secondment. This will pave way for Boustead Beef to carry out its recruitment and selection processes in preparation for the full Production set to commence end of 1st Quarter 2020
According to the publication, the letter advised all retrenched people to meet in the company boardroom today. Part of the package being offered to those retrenched according to Insider Zimbabwe are:
The company said it will offer the following retrenchment package:
- 2 weeks for each year served
- 3 months’ notice
- Accrued Leave due
