A Zim Morning Post report claims that there is a scramble within the ruling ZANU PF party to succeed demoted Secretary for Youth Pupurai Togarepi.
A number of names have been thrown around with Deputy Minister of Youth Tinoda Machakaire (Machakarika) touted a likely candidate. The publication quotes its source as saying:
Tinmac (Machakaire) is also eying the same post and but has been playing his cards close to his chest.
His close relationship to Kuda Tagwirei can push him to victory since he (Tagwirei) is believed to have great influence in the country’s decision making, imagine he can attend meetings at State House wearing jeans.
Besides that, he is a hard worker who has turned the fortunes of people in his constituency Wedza South.
The other likely candidates include Godwin Gomwe, Acting Youth League Deputy Secretary, Tendai Chirau, and controversial Deputy Information Minister Energy Mutodi.
Meanwhile, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, by virtue of being First Secretary of the party, has the prerogative to handpick the Youth League leader as the individual will sit in the ZANU PF politburo.
