MDC-T secretary-general Nickson Nyikadzino refuted allegations that his party has been receiving money from the ruling ZANU PF party directly and indirectly through the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD).
Expelled spokesperson Linda Masarira had said party leader Thokozani Khupe was a ZANU PF project who received funding from the ruling party to destabilise the opposition MDC.
Nyikadzino asserted that the allegations are not true. He said:
We have not received any funding from anyone. We do not wish to receive funding from anyone except ourselves.
The only funding that we have received is the 48 000 votes which we got from the people of Zimbabwe and we wish to remain an independent democratic party set up to serve the people of Zimbabwe.
NewsDay quotes its source as saying that the MDC-T has no grassroots yet Khupe her and inner circle are living lavishly from POLAD funds.
Former vice president Obert Gutu reportedly left the party because he was being forced to use his money to fund programmes of the MDC-T while Khupe was enjoying ZANU PF-funded luxuries.
