The president on Friday while addressing the Matabeleland Civil Society Meeting said Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni had offered him maize and he had already deployed a delegation to work on the modalities and the procurement of the said maize Sunday Mail reports.
Said the President:
Fortunately, three or four days ago when we were in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) I was sitting with other Heads of State and President Museveni of Uganda said to me, ‘President Mnangagwa, I understand you need maize in Zimbabwe, I have plenty of it, come and collect’. So, I stood up from where I was sitting and went to him and he told me he had surplus maize. Yesterday (Thursday) I sent Minister Shiri to arrange the procurement of grain from Uganda
FeedbackThe president also said the country has survived 2 consecutive droughts because of the massive reserves that were accumulated before the drought.
8 million people face food insecurity in Zimbabwe due to the 2019 drought that left over 45000 cattle dead in Masvingo, Midlands and Matabeleland.
