Coronavirus Threatens Warriors AFCON Qualifiers
Following the confirmation of two coronavirus cases in Algeria recently, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) on Thursday night said it will the guided by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on the way forward.
ZIFA spokesperson, Xolisani Gwesela, said hitherto, CAF has not raised a red flag, and this situation will become clearer as the date for the qualifiers draws closer. Said Gwesela:
We will stand guided by CAF on the way forwarded and, as of now, CAF has not raised any red flag.
FeedbackWe have an embassy in Algeria and they are fully aware of our match against that country.
We will see as the match draws closer and wait for guidance from CAF.
Zimbabwe faces the African champions, Algeria in a back-to-back 2021 Nations Cup qualifiers next month.
The Warriors are scheduled to travel to Algeria for the first match on March 23 before hosting the same opponents at home, away from home six days later following a blanket ban by CAF of all local stadia.
