The Bulawayo City Council is working flat out to ensure that Barbourfields Stadium is ready for an inspection by FIFA scheduled for Saturday, The Chronicle reports.
This was revealed by BCC’s Director of housing and community services Dictor Khumalo who is confident BCC will meet the deadline:
We are not deterred by communication that Zifa should name a foreign venue for the Algeria game because ours is to have Barbourfields Stadium meet those requirements even if the match has been moved away.
We understand that the Fifa stadium inspectors’ visit had long been scheduled for the opening two weeks of March, meaning we still have to finish what we started ahead of the March 14 deadline
CAF banned all Zimbabwean stadiums from hosting any international matches under the banner that they don’t conform to standards. BCC and the government are hoping that the FIFA delegation to inspect the NSS and Barbourfields Stadiums will allow international matches to be played on Zimbabwean soils again.
