Chamisa: "Govt Cannot Escape This One," As MDC Back ZCTU Planned Demos
The leader of the opposition MDC, Nelson Chamisa has said that his party will partner “progressive” Zimbabweans to mobilise masses for demonstrations against the deteriorating state of affairs.
In an interview with The Standard, Chamisa said that the government should pay workers a sustainable remuneration for them to be able to execute their duties and responsibilities. He said:
Workers are getting peanuts, they deserve their salaries in US dollars and that should be done.
FeedbackThey get nothing when they are expected to be productive and to eke a living and meet transport costs, electricity when in fact those costs are being charged in US dollars seeing that government has pegged fuel prices in US dollars, property owners are charging in US dollars, so government cannot escape this one.
Zimbabwe is now a hyperinflationary economy. Workers claim that their salaries which have been eroded by the soaring inflation can no longer sustain them hence incapacity to execute their duties and responsibilities.
Workers can no longer afford to buy commodities they used to as the depreciation of the local currency has resulted in prices of commodities going up.
