Tokyo Olympics Postponed To 2021 Due To COVID-19
2020 Olympics have been postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, The Guardian reports. According to the publication, the decision came after International Olympic Committee president, Thomas Bach. and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had a meeting about the games.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics Organising committee released a statement that said:
The Games must be rescheduled to a date beyond 2020 but not later than summer 2021, to safeguard the health of the athletes, everybody involved in the Olympic Games and the international community.
FeedbackThe development was confirmed by the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who said:
We agreed that a postponement would be the best way to ensure that the athletes are in peak condition when they compete and to guarantee the safety of the spectators.
The Olympics were supposed to start in July this year.
